In this article we are going to talk about data communication. As you know, data communication is not a new concept. Since the stone age, people used different methods for data communication. The concept of data communication, which started like that, has been developed with technology to communicate anywhere in the world within one second.
According to the new technology, data communication is a method of physically transmitting data through two or more devices using a transmission medium. We simply call the process of making connections between computer devices as networking. In order to become data communication or data communication, 5 grant requirements must be completed.
1.Sender
2.Receiver
3.Message
4.Transmission medium
5.Protocol
Signals
Another important topic to remember when talking about data communications is called signals. We said earlier that data communication is a method of physically transmitting data through two or more devices using a transmission medium. Okay, now imagine that you sent a picture of yourself to a friend in Australia from your phone. Then how did your picture go from your phone to your friend’s phone? You sent an image. How did the image go to Australia?
Now you see that there is something here. Actually yes. The image you sent to your friend in Australia goes to his phone because of signals. Not only the images you send, messages, voice, videos, all these things go from your phone to someone else’s phone using signals.
There are two main types of signals.
- Analog Signals
- Digital Signals
Analog Signals
We call signals whose energy levels change over time as analog signals. The shape of such signals often takes the shape of Sainaka. It is correct to say that the main electricity coming to your houses has signals like this.
Digital Signals
We call signals that represent standard values as digital signals. It is correct to say that these signals are used in computers, laptops and phones. We talked earlier about sending an image to a friend in Australia. These signals are used in that process as well. Now you understand that Digital Signals are used in all network related things.
Modem
When talking about analog and digital signals, a special device is called a modem. Why use a modem? Now let’s talk about it. The modem is used a lot to convert analog signals to digital signals as well as to convert digital signals to analog signals. If you do it now, it won’t be of much use. But this device was used a lot when internet connection came to the world.
Baseband Signals and Broadband Signals
First, let’s see what a Baseband Signal is.
Baseband Signals
First we talked about how signals are transmitted by using some transmission medium. The signals that are transmitted using the full bandwidth of the transmission medium used in this way are called baseband signals.
What is the bandwidth?
Bandwidth is the range of frequencies. You have heard on the radio that you can listen to this channel on these frequencies. The signals that take the full bandwidth of the corresponding channel are simply called baseband signals. Baseband signals are necessarily transmitted as digital signals. Not only that, these are often transmitted as short distance. Now let’s see what broadband signals are?
Broadband Signals
This type of signals are transmitted as analog signals. If a lot of signals with different frequencies are transmitted at once through a transmission medium, the concept of broadband is used in such cases. But in this case, signals go only in one direction at a time.
Now let’s see what qualities a signal should have?
- Amplitude – that is the height of the signal.
- Frequency – Frequency is the number of waves a signal completes in one second. We measure this in Hz.
- Wave length (Wave length) – Wave length is the distance between two adjacent valleys or valleys.
- Art (phase) – We call the position or angle of a wave in a certain period of time as art.
In this article we are talking about some basic keywords in networking. You will be able to know more about this later. See you again in the next article.
